From the study on the Book of Habakkuk (חֲבַקּוּק), chapter 1:12-13a, brother Gideon Levytam reflects on the prophet's response to God's revelation that He would use the Babylonians to judge His people Israel. Habakkuk was deeply surprised and troubled by this, struggling to understand how a righteous God could appoint a godless nation to bring correction to His own people. He cries out, "Art thou not from everlasting, O LORD my God, mine Holy One? we shall not die. O LORD, thou hast ordained them for judgment; and, O mighty God, thou hast established them for correction." Recognizing God's eternal nature and holiness, Habakkuk affirms that God's eyes are too pure to behold evil and that He cannot tolerate iniquity, underscoring the certainty that God will ultimately judge sin.
